LEVEL 3 restrictions will come into force in Donegal from midnight on Friday and last until October 16, the Government has confirmed.
This follows a recommendation from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET), who were concerned at the rising number of Covid-19 cases across the county.
For example, the Stranorlar Local Electoral Area (LEA) the incidence rate is at 136 per 100,000 people.
“With those sorts of numbers, we celery have no choice but to act and to act decisively,” An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, said.
Today, Donegal had 42 new cases of Covid-19 – the highest daily figure since the outbreak.
Donegal’s 14-day Covid-19 incidence rate has moved up to 122.5 overnight. The new figure is an increase of 16.3 and Donegal is second behind Dublin, where the rate is 140.3. It is more than a two-fold increase from 45.9 a week ago.
Mr Martin said: “The decision is based frankly on very worrying data. Over the last seven days, Donegal’s infection rate is more than anywhere else in the country and clusters are growing throughout the country.”
Indoor gatherings will be banned and outdoor gatherings have a limit of 15 people.
Pubs and restaurants will have to close to indoor dining, households will be limited to six visitors from one other household. Pubs will be allowed to remain open – but only for serving outdoor areas and with a limit of 15 people.
Weddings and funerals will have capped attendances of 25, care home visits will be banned and amateur sporting events and matches will be scrapped.
