IRELAND’S Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn has urged young people to heed public health advice.
Dr Glynn has pointed out that Covid-19 is spreading disproportionately among young people.
In the last two months, he said, people between the ages of 15 and 34 account for 40 per cent of Covid-19 cases.
“They are more likely to be moving about in the community, going to school, higher education or work, and keeping our economy and key services going,” he said.
“For teenagers, and people in their 20s and 30s in particular, I know that what has been, and is being asked of you again is extraordinary.
“This pandemic has impacted on your education, your employment, your relationships and your social lives. The vast majority have done the right thing – have heeded public health advice and kept themselves and their families safe.”
Figures today show that there has been no significant rise in the number of patients in hospital with Covid-19 overnight.
There are 94 confirmed cases of the disease in hospitals, with 16 of these in intensive care. This is in comparison with 90 cases in hospital yesterday.
