PADDY McNulty admitted that the decision of the Ulster FA to uphold an appeal by Kilmacrennan Celtic – thereby confirming the Lurgysiders as the Premier Division champions – was a ‘big disappointment’ for Cappry Rovers.
“It’s a big disappointment, but that’s their decision – and I’m making no further comment on it,” McNulty told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
Kilmacrennan were docked three points by the Donegal League’s disciplinary committee, who deemed that they had played an ineligible player in a 3-2 win over Cranford United.
A 3-0 win was awarded to Cranford by the League’s disciplinary body, but Kilmacrennan – who have been steadfast in their belief that they had acted correctly all through the unfortunate saga – lodged an appeal to the provincial body, which was upheld.
Cappry were pipped by Kildrum, whose captain William Lynch netted the only goal of the game, in Sunday’s Cup final.
McNulty said: “I thought it was a great game. There wasn’t much in it at all.
“I thought we deserved a wee bit of luck. We can’t fault anything. We come away not too disappointed. We had a great season and we’ve come from sitting fourth from the bottom last season. We’re getting stronger every year.”
McNulty confirmed that coach Sean McGowan has left his role.
