OISIN Orr took the biggest victory of his career today as the Rathmullan man won the Irish St Leger.
Orr took Dermot Weld’s 7/1 shot Search For A Song to a memorable win at The Curragh.
Search For A Song won the race under Chris Hayes last year and it was Orr in the saddle this afternoon.
Orr gave a masterclass, coming from deep inside the final furlong.
Andrea Atzeni was in front on Fujaira Prince before Orr asked Search For A Song to respond.
Weld hailed the Donegal man.
The winning trainer said: “I thought it was a lovely ride from Oisin Orr, he’s only 23 the other day but he switched her off beautifully and I was confident turning for home that we’d win.
“He gets horses to relax very well. I need to be very fair to Chris Hayes as he rode her beautifully last year too, they all have their own talents.
“I don’t really have a number one but Oisin rides most of them, I do accept that. I think he has wonderful hands and he fills horses with confidence.”
Orr was the joint champion apprentice in 2019 with Andrew Slattery having won the title in 2017, had been aboard Search For A Song three times this year.
This was Orr’s first top-level win and comes as a major breakthrough.
