A MAN attacked a patrol car outside a Donegal Garda station with a traffic cone, a court has been told.
Corey Thompson (19) was charged in connection with an incident on July 27, 2019.
Gardaí in Lifford received a call at 2.10am about criminal damage to a patrol car outside Newtowncunningham Garda Station.
Gardaí arrived and observed the wing mirror had been broken off and several dents to the door.
Damage totalling €1,392 was done to the patrol car.
CCTV was viewed and showed Thompson attacking the car with a traffic cone. Thompson was also observed punching the car several times.
Thompson, who has no previous convictions, was subsequently arrested by arrangement and he made full admissions.
“There is no explanation,” solicitor for Thompson, Mr Patsy Gallagher told Letterkenny District Court.
“He indicated his guilt and his embarrassment. He is a young man who was hoping to get employment but that went by the wayside with Covid. He is hoping to get to some training.
“He had just turned 18 at the time. He was receiving assistance from the education authorities and he has had issues with alcohol.”
Thompson did not appear in court and a bench warrant was issued.
