A former Donegal priest has appeared in court charged with indecent assault.
The man, who cannot be named at this time, appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court yesterday.
The man, who is in his 70s and no longer a member of the clergy, pleaded guilty to the single charge against him.
The court was told that the indecent assault took place at the Parochial House of a Co Donegal parish.
No details of the assault were given in court.
The charge is that between 13th December, 1984 and 31st of December, 1985, at the Parochial House the man indecently a male person.
The man replied “guilty’ when the charge was put to him.
The man’s barrister Shane Costelloe, instructed by solicitor Frank Dorrian said the man had no previous convictions.
He said a letter of apology to the victim had been penned by his client whom he said had acknowledged his guilt as far back as 1998.
He added that this is very much a single incident in an unblemished life.
He asked Judge John Aylmer for a Probation Report on his client and this was agreed.
The case was adjourned for sentence until the January sittings of the circuit court.
