An investigation is underway after a public bench was pulled from its location and dragged through a town in Donegal.

The unusual incident occurred in Carndonagh in the early hours of Saturday morning (between 4.30am-5.30am).

A bench was wrenched from the ground and dragged around the Diamond before it was dumped in front of a local business premises. Significant damage was caused in the incident and Donegal County Council staff were called to clear the debris that was strewn around the town centre.

Gardaí are treating the case as criminal damage and appealing for information about a specific type of vehicle. A short wheelbase Suzuki Jimny 4X4 is suspected of being involved in pulling the bench from the ground. The vehicle is not very common in Donegal, according to gardaí.

An appeal has been launched for anyone with any information in relation to the incident to contact Buncrana Garda Station on 0749320540 or the Garda confidential line on 1800666111.
