The HSE has deployed a mobile screening unit as it carries out extra Covid-19 testing in Letterkenny.
A mobile health unit was deployed to the town centre today, which is believed to be part of community testing measures.
Donegal Daily has learned that a large volume of testing is taking place in the town.
The HSE confirmed that it is working with all services to conduct testing as swiftly as possible.
“We are working with the local community to ensure all necessary measures are taken to protect us from this disease,” a spokesperson said.
“The HSE respects the privacy of all patients being tested.”
Testing has intensified in the area following an increase in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in Donegal in recent weeks.
Donegal has recorded 25 new cases of coronavirus in the past fortnight. Meanwhile, testing numbers have tripled in the Donegal Community Testing Centre since last month. 547 Covid-19 tests were carried out at O’Donnell Park Letterkenny last week up to Sunday 23rd August.
The HSE has said the rise in cases has been evident in most counties in Ireland.
