The Letterkenny Car Boot Sale was closed yesterday after Gardai visited the market to check on Covid compliance.
The car boot sale has been taking place in the grounds of the community centre on Pearse Road on Saturday mornings for a number of years.
It attracts stall-holders from both sides of the border who sell everything from tools to clothing.
However, Gardai arrived at the car boot sale and told organisers they were concerned that the market was breaching Covid regulations.
One person, who regularly attends the market, said Gardai were only allowing up to fifteen people into the car boot sale at any one time.
A Garda spokesman confirmed to Donegal Daily that officers attended the car boot sale.
A spokesperson said “Gardaí attended Pearse Road, Letterkenny yesterday morning 22nd August, 2020 at approximately 10.30 a.m. regarding Covid19 regulations.
“Management of the market closed down the market, after speaking with members of An Garda Síochána.”
Outdoor car bingo is still due to go ahead at the community centre on Wednesday next, August 26th after organisers received a license at the local district court recently.
