GARDAÍ in Donegal are investigating an alleged incident that resulted in a young hurler being hospitalised.
Gardaí have launched the probe into the alleged incident which took place after a Donegal minor hurling league game between Aodh Ruadh and Setanta.
An Aodh Ruadh player suffered facial injuries and was taken to Sligo General Hospital.
It is understood the player was attacked adjacent to the GAA ground.
The player is said to be recovering from his injuries today.
Setanta won the game 3-15 to 2-11.
When contacted, Aodh Ruadh chairman William Doogan said the Ballyshannon-based club would be making no comment.
A spokesperson in Ballyshannon Garda Station said: “I can confirm that we are investigating an alleged incident following a hurling match in Ballyshannon.”
No arrests have been made but it is understood two people have been spoken to by Gardai.
A spokesperson for the Garda Press office in Dublin confirmed “Gardaí attended the scene of an assault at a sports ground in Ballyshannon on Thursday, 20th August 2020 at approximately 9.30pm.
“The incident took place following an organised sporting event in the area. A male youth received a number of injuries and was taken to Sligo University Hospital for treatment.
“A further two male youths made admissions in relation to this matter.”
