Donegal creche submits innovative ‘play-pod’ plans

A DONEGAL-based creche has launched innovative plans to help cope with the Covid-19 guidelines.

Wonder Years Childcare Centre Creche and Montessori, based at Rossbracken, Manorcunningham has submitted plans with Donegal County Council to develop six childcare ‘play pods’.

This comes ahead of the return of the ECCE preschool sessions at the centre.

Wonderyears Ecce Limited has sought permission from the local authority for a change of use to the existing agricultural land.

The plans are to develop six childcare play-pods with access from the existing childcare car park.

Each ‘pod’ would consist of a plot of land between 320 square metres and 425 square metres. The ‘pod’ would contain a designated play zone area, a sheltered structure with a water closet and wash facilities and a single storey child care classroom.

The plans also include the development of associated car parking facilities adjacent to the pods, for the purposes of drop-off and collection.

“These will look amazing when complete and enable all our children the freedom to explore and engage in their environment with their class peers, whilst preventing contact with other classrooms,” a further note on the Wonder Years Childcare page on Facebook said.

“The health and welfare of all our children and team is as always of highest importance and we think you will be reassured and impressed to see the measures we have in place to assure this. See you all very soon.”
