GOLD explorers Arkle Resources have restarted their search for gold in Inishowen.
The company has announced that fieldwork has resumed at the Meeneragh prospect near Quigley’s Point, where gold-bearing rock was previously discovered in recent years.
A soil sampling programme is due to begin at the site, with 20 metre by 100 metre spaced sampling over the known gold veins. The work will then determine where is best to trench and drill.
The programme is due to completed in the coming month, after which targets will be prioritised for follow up trenching and or drilling.
Arkle Resources is also set to resume work at Mine River, Wicklow.
“The long detailed review of our gold projects using fresh eyes and ideas concluded at a good time for gold,” Arkle chairman John Teeling said in a statement.
“Our fieldwork has started as gold prices soar over $2,000 an oz. There is gold in Mine River and in Inishowen. This latest work will identify where best to trench and drill.”
Arkle Resources is the first company to drill for gold targets in Inishowen and said it has had “encouraging results”.
A target was identified in 2019 between the Meeneragh gold discovery drill site, and the historic Glentogher Lead-Silver mine.
