COLM MCFADDEN hit a staggering 1-9 as St Michael’s survived a scare at Moyle View Park to get the better of a battling Milford. writes Charlie Collins
Milford 0-14 St Michael’s 1-14
Shaun Paul Barrett’s team were humbled last weekend in Glenties, going down 3-20 to 0-6 against reigning county champions Naomh Conaill but led at half-time this evening.
Their 0-8 to 1-4 lead would’ve put a spring in their step against the side managed by Gary O’Neill, who had opened with a 3-5 to 0-8 win over Glenswilly and were well-backed to make it two from two.
Cathal McGettigan scored four first half points, two from frees, and Oisin Cannon in the St Michael’s goal had to prevent a Kane Barrett goal right before half-time. St Michael’s didn’t hit the heights of eight nights beforehand but did muster a goal in the 17th minute when Colm McFadden scored following unselfish play from Carlos O’Reilly.
Milford held their advantage until the 42nd minute when a Colm McFadden free, just after a Kyle McGarvey point, made it 0-11 to 1-8.
However, the hosts went ahead by two then, with Kane Barrett and Cathal McGettigan putting over. St Michael’s were in trouble but their mix of youth and experience took them through.
At 0-13 to 1-8 down they scored six out the last seven points with McFadden joined on the scoresheet by Christy Toye and O’Reilly.
