The show must go online! The annual Meenacross Agricultural Show has taken the virtual route this year to keep the tradition alive during Covid-19.
The famous Meenacross Show normally takes place on the August Bank Holiday after the Mary from Dungloe Festival.
This year should have been the 60th anniversary of the event. But current restrictions could not allow the show to take place as normal.
The locals of Meenacross were left very disappointed when the show had to be cancelled, so Secretary Caitriona Bonner set her mind on trying to organise a virtual show.
The online competitions received an overwhelming response from near and far. People got into the spirit of the show from home and sent in hundreds of photos for consideration in a wide variety of competitions.
Organisers had a bespoke rosette made to mark the virtual show and this will be sent to everyone who entered an exhibit.
A video was also made to remember locals who recently passed and to thank them for the wonderful legacy they have handed down to generations. Watch the video here: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=3179306742162327&id=104271652999200
Despite having no physical show this year, the virtual event was hailed as a great success and has stirred up excitement for the celebrations that have been postponed until 2021.
“We have not gone away but we will be bigger and better next year,” organisers said.
