Story by Katrina Tasker
Rathmullan woman Anne Friel has been handed a very different kind of paper than the usual prescriptions.
That’s because she has earned her qualification in Pharmacy Service Skills.
Locals will be well used to Anne’s cheery smile and great customer service at Rathmullan Pharmacy, but few will know that she’s recently qualified as a pharmacy technician after completing a Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills after a few years of study.
Anne and husband Michael have two sons, Mark (18) and Luke (15), and when she went back to work part-time in the pharmacy, she’d never have imagined that her job would lead her on to becoming so well qualified in her field.
And she juggled it all with being a busy mum.
Anne said: “When I started my job, as part of the role I had to complete my six months counter assistant qualification online which I did in between two lots of homework and getting the kids to bed.
“Even though I felt like I was back at school, I found that I really enjoyed studying and had a real interest in the prescription side of the business, so once I’d completed my first course, I just kept going. It was hard work, but it was well worth it and I’m really delighted to have my qualification.”
