The Green Party has announced funding for the route selection for three new Greenways in Donegal.
Funding of €340,000 has been allocated to develop route options for 3 projects in the county.
This includes funding of €180,000 to develop route options for a 32km Greenway from Buncrana to Carndonah while €45,000 has been allocated for developing route options for the 8km section from Muff to Quigley’s point.
A further €115,000 has been allocated for the selection of route options for a 28.5km section of the Foyle Valley Greenway from Carrigans to Castlefinn.
Deputy Brian Leddin welcomed the news saying “I’ve been working closely with Minister Eamon Ryan on delivering this funding which will enhance the tourism potential of Donegal. These important projects will involve working with communities and landowners to deliver green infrastructure for our rural areas. We want to develop many more Greenways in the North West.”
Donegal Green Party Chairman Michael White added “The Inishowen greenways pass through some areas of outstanding natural beauty, and have the potential to open the North East of the county to more visitors in a sustainable way. And the Foyle Valley Greenway is a key element in developing our cross border Greenways.”
“Investing in sustainable transport infrastructure is good for public health, and good for families.
“With this announcement we are one step closer to completing a continuous network of greenways across the county. We want to deliver a comprehensive network that will boost tourism and also be highly valued leisure amenities for local people in County Donegal”.
