A St Johnston man who allegedly struck his sister in the face with a plate must stay in custody until he gets a place to stay.
Gary Keys, aged 37, appeared at Letterkenny District Court last week after being charged under the Non-Fatal Offenses Against the Person Act.
Gardai told the court than when arrested on a Section 3 assault the accused replied “I didn’t do it.”
Gardai said there was an objection to bail as the accused and his alleged victim lived in the house and she was living in fear of him.
Judge Paul Kelly asked Gardai how serious was the woman’s injuries and if she had gone to hospital.
Gardai said she had a cut to her eyebrow after Keys, of Cavanacaw, St Johnston, struck her with a plate but that she had refused medical attention.
Solicitor for the accused Mr Gordon Curley told the court that he had contacted two of Keys’ sisters but they refused to allow him to stay at their addresses.
Keys again came before the court today but again the court was told that no suitable accommodation had been found.
His solicitor said he was in custody a long time for a man with no previous convictions.
But Judge Kelly replied “Where is he going to go?#8221;
Garda Sgt Jim Collins said they would consider a bail application if a suitable address was presented to them.
Judge Paul Kelly said he was remanding Keys on bail until August 6th but if that a suitable address became available he would agree to bail on a number of conditions.
These include that he provide a mobile phone number to Gardai and not to go near his sister’s address in St Johnston.
