I am writing to air my views on Moville library. I find it disgraceful and increasingly appalling that this library only opens 2 days a week. (pre c19).
There are in excess of 5 main schools, pre and post-primary along with a handful of creches, pre-schools and day-cares in the immediate hinterland. To have a library that students cannot access 5 days a week is absolutely ridiculous.
Can you tell me why the days and hours were initially cut from this library?
Ger is a fantastic librarian, ever helpful and forthcoming with information and it really is an embarrassment that DCC will not put funding into this library.
Furthermore, many of the other libraries in the area, Carndonagh and Buncrana to name to have recently been upgraded and huge amounts money put into them. Yes, Buncrana is a bigger town but Moville has a secondary school also.
So so many questions to be answered in relation to this. And even more ridiculous is the fact that there is a gaelscoil IN MOVILLE and the library stocks the POOREST SELECTION of books as gaeilge, that I have ever seen. I mean books from the 80s. Come on and put some money into that area also.
You have the only Gaelscoil in the area, Gaelscoil Cois Feabhail and put very little emphasis on providing reading materials for a school that is steeped in culture and trying to keep the Irish language alive. In a county that prides itself on how patriotic it is, it’s disappointing that this is overlooked and brushed aside.
Another issue I take with how this library is conducted is how there is no baby toddler rhyme time….I shall reiterate, there are numerous creches, days-cares , preschools etc in the area not to mention so so many young children who would avail of such an activity. Why is there no thought into that? I myself emailed 2 years ago saying I would love to do it…on “either of the mornings” the library is opened, to never be replied to or any interest taken in my offer.
We need to push for a fully stocked and fully functional library in Moville please. A library Is not just a place to check out books it’s a central place of the community where people of all ages, backgrounds etc can meet, be made feel welcome and bond over the ideals of learning, reading and educating.
You are depriving the community, families and children and adults of the gift of reading, learning and available access. It has to stop, let’s make the post C19 Moville library so so much better.
Sincerely
Janey Mc Cauley
