Termon GAA Club crossed the threshold of 23 teams within the Club at all ages on Thursday 16th July 2020 when an adult 3rd men’s team took on Glenswilly in a challenge game at the famous Burn Road grounds.
It was fitting that among the spectators at the Burn Road historic game were former Termon players, Benny and James Trearty, Denis Mc Grenra and Charle (Mandy) McFadden.
Denis and Charlie were both former Termon players who brought the first silverware to the Termon Club in 1973.
Both now have sons Gerard Mc Grenra and John (Brocagh) Mc Fadden who have given long service to the Glen on the playing field.
This Termon third team has been the product of much work at underage within the Club which culminated in Trevor Alcorn’s minor team becoming Donegal champions in 2019 and being defeated by the narrowest of margins in an Ulster minor final against the mighty Lavey from Derry.
In this historic game the Termon team managed by Brendan Mc Fadden and Tomas Cullen had a mixture of youth and experience.
It saw the return to the maroon and white of Aodh Murray, Michael Gallagher, Adrian Mc Gettigan, Shaun and Joe Gallagher, Conal Mc Grenra , Hugh Trearty, supported by Joe O Donnell, Kevin Mc Ilwaine, Tommy Ryan (Son of Tommy Ryan senior) John Mc Callig and Declan Sweeney.
While Gerard mc Grenra at 44 years young stole the show with seven points from play for the Glen man was ably supported by Gary Mc Daid, John Mc Fadden who doubled as player manager and veteran Joe Devine who put in a fine hour in the backline.
The historic Termon team was Shay Mc Ilwaine, John Mc Callig, Kevin Mc Ilwaine, Bernie Gordon, Adam Boyle,Joe o Donnell, Adrian Mc Gettigan, Joe Gallagher, Hugh Trearty, Oisin Forde, Chrles Gallagher, Declan Sweeney, Tommy Ryan, Adam Mc Ilwaine, Shaun Gallagher, Aodh Murray, Kai Mc Cafferty, Connell Mc Grenra, Killian Mc Conigley, Mary Sweeney.
Despite his advancing years (44!), Gerard McGrenra still turned in a man of the match display kicking seven points for Glenswilly.
