A man who had been living in a shed at the back of his mother’s house has been jailed for three months for kicking her door in.
The man, who cannot be named, appeared at Letterkenny District Court following the attack in Letterkenny on Saturday night last, July 18th.
The man arrived at the house saying that he had €200 inside which was he and he wanted it.
His mother told him there was no money in the house but he then kicked the door off its frame.
Garda Sgt Jim Collins said the estimated cost of the damage is €250 but that is just “a guess.”
Solicitor for the accused, Mr Frank Dorrian, said his client is well known to the court and suffers from mental health issues.
He said his client felt there was €85 in the shed which was his and described his client is “very vulnerable.”
Judge Paul Kelly said he was very aware of the man.
He said “I’m very familiar with him and he has a number of similar charges including one only a matter of months ago.
“I accept he has difficulties but he has that poor woman (his mother) terrified.”
He sentenced the man to three months in prison.
