A Judge has issued a bench warrant for a man who is to be sentenced for an incident in which he rammed a Garda patrol car and endangered the lives of Gardai.
John Tierney was due to be sentenced at Letterkenny Circuit Court after he pleaded guilty to a number of charges.
They include drunk driving, dangerous driving, endangering the lives of Gardai and not having insurance.
The incidents happened on August 1st, 2018 at both Cullion Road and Paddy Harte Road in Letterkenny.
He has also pleaded guilty to using force while robbing a bag from a woman at the Courtyard Shopping Centre in Letterkenny on 26th February, 2016.
However, when his case was called the court was told by Gardai that he was not present.
Judge John Aylmer asked if steps had been made to inform Tierney, who is out on bail, that his case was on.
The court was told that his solicitor, Mr Michael Shiel, had informed him of the court date by post and also through a text message to his brother as Tierney does not have a phone.
Gardai asked for a bench warrant to be issued for Tierney’s arrest and Judge John Aylmer agreed.
