JASON Quigley believes he can give boxing sensation Canelo Álvarez ‘one hell of a fight’.
Quigley is among a shortlist of fighters to face the Mexican.
The Ballybofey man is, like eight-time world champ Álvarez, in Golden Boy Promotions’ stable – and the 2013 World silver medalist is game.
“I want to get in there because I want to test myself and I want to see how good Canelo really is,” Quigley told Off The Ball.
“He is the main man in boxing right now. This is what it’s all about. I want to get in there with the best, I want to test myself and I want to test them.
“If I had a chance to fight Demetrius Andrade or a few of the other world champions in or around these divisions, I would decline all of those fights to fight Canelo.”
Now under the tutelage of former world champion Andy Lee, Quigley – managed by the Los Angeles-based Sheer Sports Management – firmly believes that he can be a match for Canelo.
He said: “I wouldn’t get in there if I didn’t think I had a chance of beating him.
“If I was getting in there with no hope, I wouldn’t take the fight. I know I’m a massive underdog, but I know the heart and determination I have.
“I’m not going to turn around and say I’m going to go in there and knock him out.
“I know I’ll give him one hell of a fight. Without a doubt, I have victory in my mind.”
