Donegal Airport received a major endorsement from the international gaming community after it became the only airport in Ireland featured in the upcoming release of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.
The airport will be provided as standard to subscribers of all three versions of the game; beating other airports such as London’s Heathrow, Chicago’s O’Hare and Amsterdam’s Schipol.
Microsoft chose only 30 worldwide airports for the standard edition; clearly showing how well Donegal is regarded on the world stage.
Microsoft is keen to demonstrate their new scenery engine which is based on actual satellite imagery and topographical details which will make it the most realistic home flight simulator in the world.
It’s believed Microsoft chose Donegal Airport due to its regular awards for beauty; being named the Most Scenic Airport in the world, and ranking highly as one of the most beautiful approaches worldwide.
Pilots and passengers flying in and out of the airport are treated to breathtaking views of rolling mountains, golden beaches and islands, something which is unique to Donegal when compared to other airports.
Previous versions of the game have sold up to 600,000 copies worldwide, so it’s hoped the virtual Donegal Airport will attract some tourists to visit County Donegal in the near future, once restrictions end.
The game will be available from August 18th for any wannabe pilots or gaming enthusiasts.
