There is positive news from Letterkenny University Hospital this weekend as the number of patients with Covid-19 drops to zero.
Operations records from the HSE show that there have been no patients at LUH with confirmed cases of the virus since Friday 12th June.
The figure fluctuated from four to five in the first two weeks of June. This figure represented the number of Covid-19 patients being treated at the hospital each day and not a number of new cases detected.
The number of suspected cases of Covid-19 among patients in Letterkenny has also dropped.
As of 8pm last night, there were seven patients awaiting Covid-19 test results. A double-test approach is being taken at LUH during the pandemic and the number of suspected cases is a cumulative number – not a number of new suspected cases per day.
There has been a significant drop in the number of coronavirus patients at LUH since HSE operations records began in mid-April. The hospital recorded 37 confirmed Covid-19 cases onsite on 13th April.
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases in Donegal increased by one in yesterday’s HSE update. The figure, valid to 11th June, increased from 469 to 470. It is the first increase in cases in Donegal in more than three weeks.
Minister for Health Simon Harris has this morning noted that the number of patients with Covid-19 is continuing on a downward path across Irish hospitals. Nationwide, there are 74 patients in hospital with Covid-19 and 27 patients in ICU. At its height in mid-April, these figures stood at 865 patients and 144 ICU patients across Ireland’s hospitals.
