A Donegal county councillor has slammed the Government’s lack of guidance on the wearing of facemasks.
Cllr Gerry McMonagle has been on the frontline delivering meals to people as part of the Letterkenny Chef Aid programme for the past three months.
But he said he simply cannot understand why the Government is not making a firm decision on the issue of face masks.
“I just don’t get it. Some people are wearing them and others aren’t. There is no guidance.
“If we have to wear them then so be it and if we don’t then that’s up to everyone to make up their own mind.
“But this total lack of direction on the issue has left people so frustrated and not knowing what to do,” he said.
Chief Medical Officer Tony Holohan has said he would like much more people wearing masks out in public, especially in shops, supermarkets and on public transport.
However, it is not mandatory.
A new media campaign is set to be launched by the Government in the coming days encouraging people to wear face coverings but it will still not be mandatory to do so.
