Letterkenny’s multi-million Four Lane project is facing a three-month delay due to Covid-19.
The major project was due to begin in Autumn 2020, but progress was brought to a halt when the pandemic hit.
The council now estimates that works will commence in the final quarter of 2020, subject to approvals and funding. It is hoped to tender the project in July.
The Four Lane project will see safety improvements work carried out on a 1.4Km stretch of road between the Dry Arch and Polestar roundabouts. This scheme, which is being developed by Donegal County Council in partnership with Transport Infrastructure Ireland, has been estimated at a cost of €5 million if much of the work will take place at night to minimise disruption.
Letterkenny Councillors were told today that additional considerations are now being given to plans in the context of the current Covid 19 restriction and its impact on both the tender and construction process.
Construction time was expected to be in the region of 18 to 20 months prior to the pandemic restrictions.
The Letterkenny Municipal District council also confirmed today that all programmed roadworks for 2020 are still expected to be completed by the end of the year, despite being delayed by the pandemic. Completion of works will depend to an extent on the availability of sub-contractors and outside bodies etc.
