Managing challenging behaviour, worries around children and young people with anxiety, low confidence or self esteem and the struggles of co-parenting are among the top topics that parents in Donegal are seeking support on through the new Donegal Parent Support Line.
The Support Line (1800112277), which is co-ordinated by the Donegal Family Resource Centre network, has been operational for over 2 weeks now from 9am-3pm Monday to Friday and has seen a daily rise in those who are accessing support in what has been a challenging time for parents .
As Chairperson of the Donegal Family Resource Centre network, Melanie Sweeney explains the service is there for all parents who might be struggling with a parenting issue currently.
Ms Sweeney said: “If you would like to talk through any worries or difficulties you are facing as a parent you should consider contacting the Support Line. Your call will be taken initially by a staff member who will get a clearer picture of what your worries are and some details to arrange for you to receive a call-back from one of our panel of experienced family support, youth support or healthcare workers. This call will give you a chance to talk through whatever is bothering you and will give you tips and guidance on how to move forward. They will also be able to tell you about other supports and services in the community that might be of help to you and your family.”
If you cannot phone you can also send a private message to the Parent Hub Donegal Facebook page with your name, phone number and a brief description of the issue you are looking for information/support with and a call-back will be arranged also.
The number for the new Donegal Parenting Support Line is 1800 112277 and operates Monday to Friday 9am-3pm.
