GARDAÍ have hit out at the ‘deplorable’ state some of Donegal’s beaches have been left in by litter louts.

Gardaí are actively patrolling Donegal’s beaches and beauty spots over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The public are being reminded of the importance of adhering to the 5km travel guideline.

Officers on patrol in the Buncrana District came across instances of wanton littering earlier today,

“They have noticed that some of the beaches have have been left in a deplorable state with litter,” Gardaí said.

“These beaches and beauty spots are to be visited only by those living within a 5km radius and the only things that should be left behind are footprints! Do not destroy our beautiful landscape with litter.

“Take your rubbish home with you please!”
