The number of drug driving detections for motorists in the Letterkenny Garda District is almost the same as those tested for drink-driving.
Garda Inspector Michael Harrison of Letterkenny Garda Station reiterated the seriousness of drug driving across the county which has seen detections rocket in recent months.
The latest figures for the Letterkenny Garda District show 44 detections for drink-driving so far this year and a worrying 41 detections for drug driving.
The district is the most populated and stretches from Letterkenny through to the Gap and out to Burt on the Inishowen Peninsula.
Inspector Harrison said “There’s no question it is worrying and the figures speak for themselves.
“But our message is that our members will continue to be out and about and they are now trained to test for drugs and they are doing that.”
Recent postings on the Donegal Garda Facebook page reflect the increase in drugs driving.
The majority of those testing positive for drugs show positive readings for cannabis and also cocaine.
