A Donegal nursing home matron has won a two-room home makeover in a unique competition in appreciation of all frontline workers.
Jennifer Rankin from Trentagh, Matron of the Lake House Nursing Home in Dunfanaghy, was selected as the winning nominee in the ‘Thank you Donegal Frontline Heroes‘ draw on Saturday. Jennifer was hailed as a deserving winner for her “amazing work for not only the residents and her staff but also local communities”.
Jennifer was nominated by Letterkenny country singer Sinead Black who had made a donation to the fund.
Jennifer will soon be treated to any home improvements of her choosing, with €3,000 available to spend on furniture and materials. All labour will be provided free of charge by a team of local contractors, tradespeople and an interior designer who have volunteered their services to the campaign.
As an extra treat, Jennifer will be offered a stay at the Station House Hotel while the transformation takes place!
The idea for this draw began in April with Letterkenny-based carpenters Terry Mc Gill and his son Gareth, who both had to down tools due to Covid-19 restrictions.
After six weeks out of work, they wanted to give something back to the people have no choice but to continue working during the pandemic. The fund sought to recognise and say thank you to all frontline services, including delivery drivers, postal workers, transport workers, shopkeepers and many more people working in the community.
The draw took place on Facebook Live on Saturday evening, with Letterkenny Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh on hand to pick out the winning nomination.
