A Letterkenny person who fell victim to a dumping scam has issued a warning after their waste was left in a forest.
A large ‘Sammy Skip Bag’ packed with rubbish was found in the Corravaddy Forestry on Thursday, sparking anger among locals who use the scenic walking route.
It is now alleged that the person who owned the rubbish had never intended for it to be dumped outdoors. They said they paid a ‘man with a van’ to remove the bag from their home, under the impression that the rubbish would be taken to the local skip hire.
However, they were shocked to see images of their waste in the forestry yesterday. They went to clear the mess immediately after realising they may have been conned.
The incident has sparked a warning over non-legitimate rubbish collection services being promoted online.
The person who ordered the service urged others to be aware that scammer spoke with a strong Northern accent and he drove a white transit van.
Members of the public are being advised only to dispose of rubbish through legitimate means.
