ANOTHER 15 people have died after contracting Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland, the Department of Health has said.
The latest deaths bring the country’s death toll to 1,467.
A further 139 new cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed meaning there have been 23,135 cases recorded since the outbreak.
There are currently 71 people in intensive care settings across the country with two more having been admitted within the last 24 hours.
Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, said: “As we approach May 18th, the next date highlighted in the Government’s roadmap, we continue to monitor key parameters associated with Covid-19. These include the number of new cases, numbers admitted to hospital and currently in ICU and the number of deaths.
“While 43 per cent of the population believe the worst of the pandemic is behind us, the virus is still circulating, the risk is still there in our communities. The health service will continue to prepare and respond to the virus, the public are asked to stay the course and keep up the progress we have made.”
