This year’s Waterside Half Marathon has been officially cancelled in response to concerns around the spread of coronavirus.
The major event had been scheduled to take place in September.
A statement from the Waterside Half Marathon committee said: “It was a tough decision but the health, safety and wellbeing of our runners, supporters, volunteers and organisers are paramount at this time.”
Full refunds will be issued to entrants in due course.
Members of the Derry City & Strabane District Council have also cancelled the Sperrins and Killeter Walking Festival for 2020.
Announcing today’s decisions, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Michaela Boyle, said: “I know this will be disappointing as these are both popular events and ones which positively promote health, wellbeing and fitness.
“But these are exceptional times and difficult decisions must be made for the greater good.”
