A group of local people in the Lifford area has come together to organise a community response group to assist people within the community during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
The Lifford Covid Community Response Group are commencing a Meals and Wheels Service and a Food Bank Service in the area from Monday 27 April, to help people who may find themselves facing food poverty during these difficult times.
Chairman of the group, Donal Grant sais, ‘We are setting up these much needed services for those most in need in our community during the Covid 19 pandemic, whether it’s a family who are struggling to buy food in these unprecedented times or an elderly person in need of a cooked meal and if you live within the Parish of Clonleigh we urge you to get in touch.’
The group is relying on the kindness and generosity of the local community to fund their efforts through donations and to date many local businesses and sporting organisations have offered their services.
‘Lifford Old Courthouse has kindly offered to cook meals for the Meals on Wheels Service and the local GAA club, Naomh Padraig has offered their clubhouse as a base for the Food Bank,’ said Donal.
‘We have been overwhelmed by the support of local people, businesses and community organisations in the area who have offered their services to raise money or who have made donations to our fundraising page but we still have a good way to go.’ he continued.
The group is currently looking for volunteers to help with packaging and delivering food parcels.
