A DONEGAL cyclist has raised almost €2,000 from a 12-hour cycle on Zwift yesterday.
Mitchell McLaughlin from Drumkeen completed 406km he started early yesterday morning in his home.
Using a stationary bike and the Zwift app, McLaughlin – who is on the books of Zappi Racing in Italy – made light of the gruelling task.
He had plenty of support throughout the day.
“Doing 12 hours on Zwift was a brutal 406km – I only expected 360km,” McLaughlin told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“Only for all my friends, team mates from Zappi and Sean McFadden, who spent 12 hours on zoom with me, the support was unreal.
“Also, my mum and sister made me food all day and kept me fuelled up. My coach Bryan McKinney has kept me right up to this.
“Today I’m fine, just sore knees from a non-stop 12 hours and only getting off three times for the toilet and changing shorts that was it. Today I was out painting fences at the house so I’m fine and not even tired!”
So far, his endeavours have raised €1,795 for front line workers at Letterkenny University Hospital.
