Donegal Gardai have issued a warning over a fake text message trying to defraud people out of their savings.
The text claims to be from the Bank of Ireland but it is the latest in a number of such hoax messages.
A spokesperson said “We have received reports that a number of hoax text messages are doing the rounds claiming to be from Bank Of Ireland.
“These messages may state that the Bank is unable to process the last payment on the account and to click the link to resolve the issue or that unusual activity has been noted on your account.”
The spokesperson added that the hoax text messages take many forms.
They advised “Please do not ever click on the link contained in these messages should you receive one.
“Bank of Ireland will not send you a text message requesting that you click on a link nor will they request personal or financial details from you via text message. If in doubt please contact your bank directly.”
