Staff at Letterkenny University Hospital are full of thanks to kind donors who created simple but clever item to make masks more comfortable.
One person, known as Sadie, and another woman named Mairead Buckley, knitted a collection of ear savers to protect staff from the discomfort of elastic from masks during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The items allow medics to hook the strings of masks around the back of their heads instead of having the elastic chafing their skin.
With hospital staff still growing accustomed to wearing PPE (personal protection equipment), this little item can make a big difference.
The time and effort that Sadie and Margaret put into the donation has been greatly appreciated.
One nurse was delighted to find the donations. One was left in the hospital with a card saying “I hope these can help yous, stay safe, Sadie.”
The nurse said: “It was such a thoughtful gesture.
“She deserves some thanks back for thinking of everyone in the hospital when she should just be worried about her and her family.”
Another generous donation of 50 ear savers came into LUH on Tuesday thanks to knitter Mairead Buckley.
A nurse told Donegal Daily: “I told my aunties on Easter Saturday my ears and all my colleagues ears are hurting so much from the mask and her wonderful friend Mairead Buckley whom I’ve never met before sent ear protectors and the most beautiful card ever and arrived on Tuesday.
“It was a total surprise and the most heart warming thing!”
