LEO Varadkar and Micheál Martin have come to an agreement this afternoon on a document intended to pave the way for Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil to enter into government.
The historical joint framework was agreed this afternoon at a meeting of the two party leaders.
They now hope the document will form the basis for a Programme for Government and will see them enter a coalition on a ‘full and equal partnership’.
The two parties have 72 Dáil seats – eight short of the majority.
The document will now be sent to smaller parties and independents who are interested in entering into government.
The leaders agreed for work towards forming a majority government – but only on the basis that it will involved at least three parties
