IRELAND lit up tonight at 9pm as the #ShineYourLight campaign shone as a gesture of solidarity amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The #ShineYourLight campaign called on people of all ages to simply light up.
Across the county, candles flickered, Christmas lights were switched on again, flash laps shone and mobile phone torches beamed.
The initiative was also in memory of the 427 people who have died on the island of Ireland after contracting the coronavirus.
President Michael D Higgins led the way with dozens of lanterns burning brightly outside Aras an Uachtarain, while a variety of heritage sites, public buildings and windows were all lit up.
Donegal was no different with people from Malin to Bundoran and Lifford to Arranmore taking part in the initiative.
In Letterkenny, Matthew Dunne dusted down the Christmas lights. Outside the family home at Ballymacool, Matthew arranged the lights in the letters HSE, following by a heart.
