A FAMILIAR sound rang through the Buncrana air at around 8pm this evening.
Locals might have thought they were back in time as the howls of the siren from the old fire station filled the Thursday night air.
Local firefighters decided to sound the siren – around 20 years since it had last rang out – as a mark of support and appreciation for their colleagues in healthcare and fellow emergency service workers who are fighting against Covid-19.
The siren was located on the roof of the old fire station in the town and over several decades the sound called firefighters to the station whenever there was a call before the introduction of personal pagers.
