A LETTERKENNY businessman spent two hours last night dishing out free hand sanitiser to frontline hospital staff.
John Watson set up at the main entrance to Letterkenny University Hospital last night and gave out hundreds of free bottles of the sought-after sanitiser.
With the aid of his son, Eoin, John’s generous offer proved a huge hit among staff at the hospital who are among the heroes helping to fight the Covid-19 crisis.
“It’s amazing to see someone do this,” one frontline worker told Donegal Daily. “Hand sanitiser has been so hard to get at times lately. Fair play to John. He didn’t have to do it – and to give it away for free like that is just a brilliant gesture.”
Staff clocking out and clocking in stopped and rolled down their window to take receipt of a bottle or two; others wandered over before going back to their cars; each mightily impressed and grateful for a small toke of appreciation.
“It’s just about giving something back,” John, of Watson Hire, said.
“These people are working so hard and generally get very little thanks. It’s just something to say thanks. We’re all in this together and none of us know when we or someone close to us might need these people in the next wee while.
“We should all come out of this a bit more thankful to the frontline staff.”
