CONTACTLESS payment limits have gone up from €30 to €50 from today.
Customers paying by debit or credit cards can now tap their cards for spends of up to €50.
The move was agreed last week in a bid to limit the number of cash transactions during the coronavirus emergency.
Around 75 per cent of retail and convenience stores are said to have implemented the increase from this morning.
Tesco has said that it will not be increasing the limit. The supermarket chain said it would have to carry out a manual fix of in excess of 4,600 terminals in its 151 outlets.
“The risk associated with making such a large volume of software updates is very significant, including the potential for disruption to tills, pin pads and self-scan checkouts.”
