THERE has been a large rise in the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Donegal.
Figures released this evening by the National Public Health Emergency Team shows nine new cases in the county – increasing from a today of 15 yesterday.
A 60 per cent jump from yesterday brings into sharp focus the increasing demands on the health service locally.
Six of the deaths were in the east with one in the south.
A further 200 confirmed cases bring the total to 2,615.
As of midnight on Friday night, the media age of confirmed cases was 47 years, 564 cases had been hospitalised with 77 of those admitted to intensive care units (that figure was updated to 88 by the HSE as of today).
Healthcare workers accounted for 506 of the cases.
Of those for whom transmission status is known, community transmission accounts for 51%, close contact accounts for 24%, travel abroad accounts for 25%
