New date confirmed for 2020 Wild Atlantic Adventure Race (WAAR)

THE WILD Atlantic Adventure Race (WAAR) has become the latest event to have a date change due to the coronavirus crisis.

The 2020 version of WAAR has, following an emergency meeting of the organising committee, been moved back to Saturday, August 22.

“The last 48 hours has seen a real escalation in the situation. It was felt that the next few weeks will see this only escalate further,” organisers said in a statement.

“While all our voluntary work is focused on running WAAR, we must prioritise the health and well being of competitors and their families, as well as the army of helpers and volunteers needed for race day.”

Participants have three options now: Transfer their entry to the new days; donate the entry fee to a chosen wellbeing charity; or to receive a refund, less admin fees.

The statement said: “We apologise for any inconvenience our rescheduled date causes. In particular for all those people hoping to take part in their first WAAR event.

“We understand this date won’t suit everyone but it’s more important for us to reschedule the date rather than cancel the event, for the wellbeing of our loyal competitors.”

The WAAR committee have appealed for people to be patient with their voluntary officers in these challenging times.

Organisers added: “There is no set guidance yet available on how long this situation will continue but looking at the Donegal and National race calendar we are seeking to have the race rescheduled for Saturday August 22nd 2020, which wasn’t an easy decision with such a busy calendar ahead. We hope this allows enough time for the restrictions to be lifted.”
