The birthday surprises just keep on coming for Raphoe schoolboy Jack Beattie.
Jack, who turns nine today, has been celebrating a unique birthday in isolation due to the Covid-19 emergency.
But that didn’t stop over 1,000 people sending him cards and gifts in the post.
And now, the popular boy has received an impressive gift from his friends in An Garda Síochána – a promotion to the rank of Honorary Sergeant!
Jack is a proud member of the Little Blue Heroes charity project, where children with special needs are welcomed onto the force by local gardaí.
The keen crimefighter has carried out two years of service with Donegal gardaí – catching baddies, marshalling parades and inspecting stations. Now that he has reached the wise old age of nine, his colleagues have deemed him suitable for promotion.
Superintendent Michael Finan, Letterkenny District HQ, added to Jack’s celebrations by promoting him to the rank of Honorary Sergeant today.
Supt Finan, while keeping with social distance guidelines, delivered an official letter to young Garda Beattie to notify him of his new role. Jack was gifted with new Sergeant chevrons for his uniform, which he is sure to wear with pride when he gets back out on the beat.
Birthday boy Jack has a grand celebration with over 1,000 cards!
