The Donegal Mountain Rescue Team has issued a warning to walkers to stick to familiar and low-risk routes.
The team issued the warning as hundreds of people take to the parks, hills and walkways of Donegal to get some fresh air.
A spokesperson for the DMRT said “To protect our team members and their families, and to ensure that we are not contributing to an already over-burdened health service, we are advising those planning on walking in the Donegal hills to stick to familiar, low-risk routes, as this public health emergency is ongoing.
“Plan ahead to minimise risk. “We also urge hillwalkers to engage in appropriate social distancing. Don’t walk in large groups, and keep your distance.”
The voluntary group said it will remain fully operational and committed to saving lives on the Donegal mountains 24/7.
The spokesperson added “We are advising everyone to follow the HSE’s public health advice surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak. Daily updates are available on www.hse.ie.”
