Up to 30,000 coronavirus testing kits are on their way to Ireland tomorrow.
It comes as the number of people with the virus is expected to increase considerably in the coming days.
At least one centre will be set up in Letterkenny while others may follow in different parts of the county.
Patients suspected of having coronavirus are waiting days to receive tests despite showing symptoms the HSE has said.
A large backlog of patients has been caused as a result of a shortage of testing swabs.
Dr Colm Henry, clinical lead of the Health Service Executive, said there are “large volumes of people” waiting to get tested for Covid-19.
He said there will be delays getting people tested and that it is difficult to carry out the test in the time that patients would like.
He added that the first line of defence remains testing, contact tracing and self-isolation.
Earlier this week it was revealed that Croke Park is to be turned into a testing centre in the battle against coronavirus.
Details of the test centres in Donegal are expected to be released shortly by the HSE.
