Sinn Fein TD Pearse Doherty has spoken of his pride in his wife after she decided to re-register as a nurse in the fight against coronavirus.
Róisín Doherty, who lives in Gaoth Dobhair with Pearse and their four sons, originally trained as a nurse but retrained to become a school teacher.
But now the Monaghan-born woman has decided that with schools forced closed she will return to nursing.
Her Dail Deputy husband took to Facebook to express his admiration for her.
He even included a picture of her name badge in her maiden name of Boyle as well as her nurses watch.
He wrote “Haven’t seen her nursing badge and watch in over 12 years and Róisín Boyle is now Róisín Doherty.
“What we are about to face with this virus will require an amazing national effort.”
“I am proud that Róisín has decided with the schools closed and teachers off to re-register as a nurse to help in whatever way she can.
“Stay safe, follow heath advice and look out for each other.”
