The ESB has substantially reduced planned outages in Inishowen this week.
The network had notified 736 customers that they would be without power tomorrow (Wed).
The move had caused concerns among parents with children at home due to the coronavirus.
Now ESB networks has rowed back on the plan but it will still mean 83 customers being affected.
A spokesperson explained “Having reviewed the scheduled outage in Buncrana set for Wednesday 18th March, ESB Networks has decided to scale it back significantly to mission critical work that simply has to be completed.
“Accordingly, the works at Buncrana will be reduced from a planned and notified outage affecting 736 customers to a more modest outage which will affect 83 customers.
“In light of the current situation with COVID 19, we are reviewing all of our planned works and outages in the near term with a view to examining what can or should be changed/modified.”
Deputy Joe McHugh said he wanted to thank ESB networks for making the decision to scale back on the power outages at this time.
He said “I want to thank the regional team of ESB Networks for their help… they are trying their best to manage planned outages which happen all the time, aimed at strengthening the network.
“After contact from me they have agreed to scale back works in Buncrana from Wednesday to reduce the impact on the community.”
