SOME of Ireland’s biggest retailers are top implement priority shopping hours for the elderly this week.

Lidl and Iceland stores across the country – including the retain chains’ Donegal outlets – will have dedicated hours in operation.

Lidl will operate priority shopping from 9-11am each day from tomorrow, March 17, while Iceland will dedicated 8-9am each morning from Wednesday, March 18, to customers who are over 65.

“We ask that the public respect this time period to allow more vulnerable customers to pick up the food and supplies they need,” Lidl said in a statement.

Lidl say the move ‘will include prioritised queuing and additional assistance for our older customers’.

Lidl reminded customers to respect the measure and plan their shopping trips accordingly.

Iceland Ireland said in a statement: “We would like to reassure all of our customers that we will continue to operate as normally as possible over the coming days and weeks while following guidelines from the government.

“We would ask our other customers where possible to respect this hour and help us give this time to this customer group to ensure that the most vulnerable in our society can shop in comfort and safety.”
